Affiliate and Ministry
Historically, the Immaculate Heart Community formed a variety of ministries. In 2023, the IHC made the decision to change the Corita Art Center (CAC) to an affiliate with its own non-profit status. The IHC is proud of the way CAC carries forth the mission, vision, and values of the IHC.
At the present time, as it recovers from the disastrous mudslides of 2018, La Casa de Maria continues to be a ministry of the Community.
Affiliate
Corita Art Center
The Corita Art Center preserves and promotes Corita Kent’s art, teaching, and passion for social justice. Today, the Corita Art Center supports exhibition loans and public programs, oversees image and merchandising rights, sells Corita’s original prints, and serves as a resource of information about her life and work.
At our core, the Corita Art Center believe that art and arts education are powerful platforms for social change. Recognizing that the Corita Art Center engages in the legacy and interpretation of a single individual, CAC seeks to preserve and promote Corita’s life and work by actively supporting a wide breadth of arts programs, exhibitions, and scholarship, cultivating open dialogue and diverse perspectives.
Ministry
La Casa de Maria
Since the 1950s, the Immaculate Heart Community has owned and operated a property in Montecito, California known as La Casa de Maria. It has served as a peaceful sanctuary for groups and individuals seeking to renew purpose, strengthen community, and increase their effectiveness in the world. Located on 26 acres along the banks of the San Ysidro Creek, La Casa is nestled between mountain and ocean.
Following the aftermath of the Thomas fire and the subsequent mudslide in 2018 that destroyed 9 buildings and significantly modified the land structure, the Immaculate Heart Community is in the process of considering how to work with the land to continues its legacy of commitment to spiritual growth as a retreat center, open to all faiths and disciplines, focused on providing a safe, peaceful and naturally beautiful environment dedicated to helping people reconnect and recharge physically, emotionally and spiritually.
